The Course Catalogue for the Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering for Energy and Environment and the Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering for Design and Production provides that in Year II students must acquire 3 ECTS under the “Other Knowledge” category.
Please note that 3 ECTS correspond to approximately 24 contact hours and, considering individual study by the student, to about 75 hours of total workload.
These credits (also partially) can normally be acquired by attending Specialist Seminars, usually delivered by speakers from the research community and from industry.
Seminar notices specify, in particular, access information and the number of ECTS awarded upon presentation of an attendance certificate issued by the Seminar’s organising lecturer.
University student initiatives (covering all or part of the 3 ECTS) can also be certified as Other Knowledge, such as:
- Active participation in the Unina Corse team (certified by the PRESIDENT of the Association)
- Active participation in the 1001 Vela team (certified by the PRESIDENT of the Association)
The following Federica Web Learning MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) can also be certified as Other Knowledge (1 ECTS per course):

Procedure for credit recognition on the student record
For the credits to be recorded, in addition to attending the proposed initiatives, you must collect attendance certificates and participation statements (in the required formats) until you reach a total of 3 ECTS.
Seminars and MOOCs may be taken starting from Year I, and their recognition will take place upon the student’s request starting from the first exam session of Year II.
Starting from the first exam session of Year II only, students may send all the certificates obtained (attendance at Seminars/short courses, statements from the Presidents of the University Student Associations, MOOCs) to the Degree Programme secretary, Mr Luigi Calvanese (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), specifying in the email subject: “Request for accreditation of Other Knowledge ECTS for <name of the degree programme>”. After the necessary processing and checks, the 3 ECTS will be visible in the student’s career on their SEGREPASS account.
Operational guidelines for verifying English language proficiency
As set out in the Teaching Regulations of the Master’s Degree Programme (see Article 4 – Admission requirements and knowledge required for access to the Programme), the student’s personal preparation must include documented ability to correctly use, in written and oral form, at least one European Union language other than Italian, with reference also to disciplinary terminology.
In particular, since to obtain the Master’s Degree the student must be able to use fluently one European Union language in addition to Italian, the regulations require students who do not hold a certification of knowledge of an EU language at least at level B2 to spend at least 3 of the 12 ECTS allocated to “other educational activities” in the form of additional language skills. These 3 ECTS are awarded with a pass/fail outcome (no grade), only an eligibility.
Specifically:
- Students who already hold a B2 (CEFR) English certificate issued by a certified centre external to the University may request the recognition of 3 ECTS of additional language skills by emailing the certificate to the Programme office at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
- Students who do not already hold such a certificate may obtain it by taking the B2 Placement Test organised by the University Language Centre (CLA) for the purpose of assessing language competence. The test schedule is published at https://www.cla.unina.it/placement_test. Following the test, the CLA will notify the Programme Coordinator of the result for the recognition of the 3 ECTS of additional language skills. Students who do not pass the Placement Test may follow an online B2 remedial course organised by the CLA (https://www.cla.unina.it/bacheca) and subsequently retake the test.
