ERASMUS

The University of Naples Federico II has defined a framework of agreements with other Italian Universities, enabling students to include in their study plan courses offered at other institutions. This promotes an interdisciplinary and innovative approach to learning. National mobility is supported through scholarships awarded following a call for applications issued by the University:

The selected students will be able to carry out their mobility period foreseen at the host/partner university for a minimum of 3 continuous months (equal to 90 days) continuously – failure to meet this requirement will result in the forfeiture and return of the scholarship – and up to a maximum of 6 months. The mobility must take place exclusively during the second semester of the academic year to which the call refers.

For the 2025-26 academic year, the IMEA Degree Course has signed or renewed agreements with the following partners institutions:

Erasmus+ is the European Union Programme in the fields of Education, Training, Youth and Sport, for the period 2021-2027.

The Erasmus+ programme consists of two main initiatives that students of the Mechanical Engineering for Energy and Environment degree courses can join:

1. Erasmus+ Mobility for study purposes, allows students to spend a period of study or do an internship at a partner institute belonging to universities that have signed an exchange agreement with our university;
2. Erasmus+ Traineeship allows students to carry out internships or prepare their degree thesis at companies, training centres, universities and research centres or other organisations.

Access to the initiatives takes place through a selection notice published on the unina website page dedicated to the Erasmus program.

Selection criteria may vary from year to year, but generally they take into account the student’s previous career, including the number of exams completed, the average grade, and in case of master’s degree students the final undergraduate degree graduation score.
Usually, the Erasmus+ Mobility for study purposes call is published in the first part of the year, i.e. between February and March, while the Erasmus+ Traineeship call is published between May and June.

Erasmus+ Mobility for study purposes allows to spend a period abroad only at Universities or Institutes that have signed an exchange agreement with our University. The period can be used both to take exams and to do an internship. The list of possible destinations is included in the selection notice.

Instead, Erasmus+ Traineeship allows to spend a period abroad at companies, training centers, universities and research centers or other organizations regardless of the existence of an exchange agreement with our University. However, this period can only be used to carry out internship activities and/or thesis preparation, whereas it is not possible to take exams.

Selection notices outline the procedures for choosing a destination. Since these procedures may vary from year to year, it is necessary to refer to the specific announcement of interest.

The Erasmus+ scholarship winner is required to draw up a Learning Agreement (LA) or a Learning Agreement for Traineeship (LAT) before departure, the content of which must be agreed with the Erasmus coordinator of the course of study, Prof. Alfonso William Mauro. The agreement must be signed by the student, the Erasmus coordinator of the home university, and the host institution. The agreement must describe the activities that will be carried out during the period of stay abroad and any correspondence with activities foreseen in the student’s study plan.
In the case of specific reasons (academic or personal), the learning agreement may be modified during the mobility period, provided any changes are agreed upon with the Erasmus coordinator.

For the conversion process, only the exams and grades appearing in the Transcript of Records (TOR) that the student receives from the hosting institution at the end of their period of stay are valid.
The grade conversion process is carried out according to the ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) guidelines. Grades are therefore not converted from one national system to another based on rigid tables or simple proportions but follow the grade distributions achieved by students in both institutions. The following figure illustrates the process of aligning grades in the two national scales considering the grade distribution statistics.

Specifically, for the courses of study in Mechanical Engineering, the conversion process uses the statistical distributions of grades according to the ECTS guidelines, giving the student the maximum grade in the overlapping range. The statistical distributions for the students of the Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and for the students of the degree class in Industrial Engineering are reported below.

For institutions that have not yet adopted statistical distributions, but use the previous ECTS scale, i.e. with letters A, B, C, D, E, the previous mechanism based on the following tables is maintained.
