Didactic Regulations of the Master’s Degree Courses in Mechanical Engineering for the Energy and the Environment and Mechanical Engineering for Design and Production require the acquisition of 3 additional CFU under the “Further Knowledge” category. These credits are accounted for during the second year.
It is important to note that 3 CFU correspond to approximately 24 hours of classroom instruction, in addition to the hours dedicated to personal study or other individual training activities, for a total student workload of about 75 hours.
Generally, these credits (or part of them) can be earned by attending specialized seminars, which are generally held by qualified experts from academia and/or industry.
Seminar notices include the access information and the CFU number, that are recognized through a certificate of attendance provided by the organizing professor of the seminar.
University student initiatives may also contribute to the full or partial fulfilment of the additional 3 CFU. These include:
- Active participation in the Unina Corse team (certified by the President of the Association)
- Active participation in the 1001 Vela team (certified by the President of the Association)
Finally, Federica Web Learning MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) courses listed below may also be recognized as “Further knowledge” (each course grants 1 CFU).

Credit recognition procedure for academic progression
It should be noted that, in order to recognize the credits as part of the academic record, the following actions should be undertaken:
- Actively participate/attend to the approved initiatives
- Collect the relevant attendance certificates and documentation, in accordance with the established procedures, until the full 3 CFU requirement is fulfilled.
Seminars and MOOCs may be attended starting from the first year of the program; however, their recognition will only be processed upon student's request, beginning with the first exam session of the second year.
Only starting from the first exam window of the second year, students are entitled to send the acquired certificates (attendance to Seminars/Short courses, certification by Associations Presidents, MOOC) to the secretary of the Degree Program, Mr. Luigi Calvanese (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). The e-mail subject should read: “Further Knowledge CFU Accreditation for <name of Degree Program>”. After the necessary time to complete the procedure and carry out the required verifications, the 3 CFU will be registered in your academic record and become visible in the personal SEGREPASS account.
Procedures for English Language Proficiency Verification
As reported in the Didactic Regulations of the Master’s Degree Program (see Art. 4 – Admission requirements and knowledge required for access to the Degree Program), students’ personal preparation must also include documented proficiency in the correct use, both written and oral, of at least one European Union language other than Italian, with particular attention to the relevant disciplinary terminology.
In particular, since to obtain the Master’s degree the student must be able to fluently use a European Union language, in addition to the Italian language, the regulation forsees in the study plan an adequate number of CFU (at least 3) to acquire “Further Linguistic Knowledge”, particularly in English. The achievement of this knowledge, at least at B2 level, will be certified using methods defined by the University Language Center (cla.unina.it). Students already in possession of an English certificate of at least B2 level at the time of enrolment, do require recognition for the purposes of “Further Linguistic Knowledge” with procedures established by the University Language Centre.
The following clarifications are provided in this regard:
- Students who already hold a Level B2 English language certificate (as defined by the CEFR), issued by an accredited institution outside the University, may request the recognition of 3 CFU for “Further Linguistic Knowledge” by sending the certification to the Degree Program Secretariat via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
- Students who do not already possess a Level B2 English language certificate may obtain one by taking the B2 Placement Test, organized by the University Language Center (CLA), for the purpose of assessing language proficiency. The test schedule is available at: https://www.cla.unina.it/placement_test. Following the test, the CLA will communicate the results directly to the Degree Program Coordinator for the recognition of 3 CFU under further linguistic knowledge. Students who do not pass the Placement Test may take an online B2-level enhancement course, also organized by the CLA (https://www.cla.unina.it/bacheca), and attempt the test again at a later date.
