Design of Production Systems - a.y. 2016/2017

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the problem of production systems designing. The perspective, adopted in this learning path, consists in combining technical and designing features with economic issues, in order to develop the systemic competences required by the topics covered within the course. According to this theoretical aim, the acquired skills and knowledge are practiced through exercises and case studies. These applications span from the techno-economic feasibility of production systems to dimensioning of its components: technological systems and plant service facilities.

The principles and analytical approaches of the economic models for the production in the plants. Manufacturing costs (and their modeling analysis), revenues, balance and performance indicators. The Sizing of Production Systems: the models of reference, and related, qualitative and quantitative, issues. The layout of the industrial plants: definitions, theoretical foundations, processes optimization and technical evaluation of the optimal configuration. The sizing of the industrial warehouse: technical definition of the lying-optimal scheme; structural and functional sizing of warehouses with handling by means of forklifts and automatic handling. The management of the supplies. The sizing of the machine for material handling. Technical-Economic dimensioning of plant service facilities. Classification of plant service facilities. General criteria for designing service facilities. Service facility costs. Convenience assessment of service facility potentiality increasing. Performance indicators of a service facility. The main service facilities are presented. Maintenance in a production plant. Facilities for compressed water generation and distribution in production plants. Facilities for steam generation and distribution in a production plant. Facilities for air compressed generation and distribution.
