Electrical Machines and Drives (Electrical Machines) - a.y. 2016/2017

CFU: 6

Period (Year/Semester): II/I

Languade: Italian

Required/expected prior knowledge: None

Lecturers: Gianluca Brando

Course objectives:
The course aim is to provide the basic knowledge of electrical machines (transformers, motors and generators). The theoretical content, together with the extensive numerical and experimental tests, will enable the students to understand the performance characteristics of the electrical machines under different operating conditions.

General information on conductive materials, insulators and magnetic materials.
Magnetic circuits.
Mathematical model of the single-phase transformer.
Equivalent circuit of the single-phase transformer.
Three-phase transformers.
Special transformers.
Mathematical model of the DC machine.
Stationary operating characteristics and speed regulation of the DC machine.
Mathematical modelof the induction machine.
Stationary operating characteristics and speed regulation of the induction machine.
About the isotropic synchronous machine.
About the PM synchronous machine .

Education method:
Theoretical lessons.
Numerical exercises.
Experimental tests.

Textbooks and learning aids:
Lessons notes.
I. Marongiu; E. Pagano: “I trasformatori”, ed. Liguori.
V. Isastia Cimino: “Macchine elettriche” ed. Praise Worthy Prize.

Assessment will be written (numerical exercises) and oral.
