Course objectives:
The course aims to enhance the knowledge of the students on the basic principles of innovative manufacturing processes and to compare them to the traditional techniques. In this way, it will be possible to forecast and control the microstructure of the material subjected to those processes, as a function of the process parameters adopted and, as a consequence, to control the performances achievable with the produced components.
A special focus is dedicated to the aluminium and titanium alloys and super alloys.

Tables of contents: 
Sheet metal manufacturing: cutting, blanking, bending, forming and deep drawing.
Nonferrous alloys: aluminium alloys, titanium alloys, super alloys.
Non-conventional processes: classification, overall considerations, comparison and future trends. Basic principles, process description and machines dedicated to the following processes:Electro Discharge Machining, Laser Beam Machining, Chemical and Electro-Chemical Machining, Ultrasonic Machining, Friction Stir Welding and processing, Linear Friction Welding, Powder Metallurgy, Gas Dynamic Cold Spray.
Additive Manufacturing: Additive Layer, Selective Laser Melting, Electron Beam Melting, Fused Deposition Modelling.
Non-Destroying Evaluation: Basic principles and aims; defectology; classification of NDE techniques: Ultrasonic Inspection, Gamma and X Ray, Magnetoscopic Test, Liquid Penetrant Inspection, Eddy Current, Thermography.

Assessment will be oral.
