Course objectives:
Acquisition of the foundations of Fluid dynamics. Learn the use of elementary methods for the calculation of one-dimensional flows in incompressible and compressible regimes. Application of these methods to engineering problems of interest to the mechanical engineer. 

Tables of contents:
History and scope of Fluid Mechanics. Fluid statics, pressure and forces acting on the vessel of liquid.Pressure measurements. Fluid-dynamic equations and fluid stress tensor. Dimensional analysis and similarity. Boundary layer in incompressible flow. Laminar and turbulent flows. Head loss, the friction factor andminor or local losses in pipe systems, Multiple-pipe systems. Frictionless flow: the Bernoulli Equation (Venturi tube and Pitot tube).  The speed of sound. Normal and oblique shock waves, Prandtl-Meyer expansion waves, Adiabatic and isentropic steady flow. Isentropic flow with area changes, Operation of converging and diverging nozzles. Nozzle flow applications. Flow past immersed bodies. Drag and Lift, flow separation, airfoil stall. 

Education method:
Lectures and classroom exercises.

Textbooks and learning aids:
Notes and slides distributed by the teacher.

Assessment will be oral.
