Course objectives:
The course provides basic knowledge of the aero-thermal design principles of fluid machinery. Technical aspects concerning guidelines to establish the most relevant geometrical features of conventional fluid machinery are dealt with a fluid dynamic approach.

Tables of contents: 
Fundamentals of aero-thermal design; sizing and assembling principles.
Radial and axial flow compressors. Radial and axial flow pumps.
Reciprocating and rotary pumps and compressors.
Radial and axial flow turbines.
Machinery sizing through Cordier charts.
Aero-thermal design of axial fan, multi-stage axial flow compressor, centrifugal compressor, single stage positive displacement compressor, centrifugal pump, radial flow gas turbine and horizontal axis wind turbine.

Education method: 
Theory and practice; design exercise through team work.
